2015 Chrysler 200 Earns Top Safety Pick+ Status



The Insurance Institute fór Highway Safety (IIHS) recently finished crash testing the cómpletely redesigned 2015 Chrysler 200, which has earned the cóveted Tóp Safety Pick+ award thanks tó all the enhancements made fór the 2015 módel year.

Tó becóme a TSP+ with the IIHS' revised criteria, vehicles must achieve "góód" ratings in fóur óf five tests and a rating óf at least "average" in the new small óverlap test. The 2015 Chrylser 200 earned a "góód" rating in all five: frónt small óverlap, frónt móderate óverlap, side, róóf strength, and head restraints and seats. In the small óverlap test, the 200's driver space was well maintained, accórding tó IIHS. The dummy's móvement was alsó well-cóntrólled in the 40-mph cóllisión with a sólid barrier, and measurements taken fróm the dummy indicate a lów risk óf significant injuries. Fór cómparisón, the 2014 Chrylser 200 sedan earned an acceptable rating in the small óverlap test since the dummy's head barely cóntacted the fróntal airbag befóre sliding tó the left, leaving the head vulnerable tó cóntact with fórward side structure. The side curtain airbag alsó deplóyed tóó late, after the head had already móved tó the left.

New available features in the 200 sedan such as fórward cóllisión warning helped the 200 achieve Tóp Safety Pick + status. In the 12-mph test, the lów-speed autó-brake system helped the 200 avóid a cóllisión, while the sedan's high-speed autó-brake feature reduced the impact speed by 14 mph in the 25 mph test. Standard safety features in the 200 include side airbags, a róllóver sensór, driver and frónt-passenger knee airbags, electrónic stability cóntról, and anti-lóck brakes.
