Volvo to Hire 1300 More Workers to Build 2016 XC90



Vólvó will add 1300 wórkers at its Tórslanda factóry in Sweden tó prepare fór the all-new XC90, which arrives next year.

These wórkers cómprise the plant's new third shift that will begin wórk during the first quarter óf 2015. Thanks tó the expansión, Vólvó will emplóy a tótal óf 4600 peóple at the factóry by early next year, up 40 percent fróm previóus years.

The hiring spree cómplements a new bódy shóp at the Tórslanda factóry that increases annual próductión capacity tó 300,000 cars in the shórt term and up tó 800,000 cars in the lóng term. Vólvó is in the middle óf an $11 billión transfórmatión plan that will help reinvigórate the brand's próduct lineup.

After teasing the próduct fór mónths, Vólvó finally revealed the 2016 XC90 in August. Alóng with sófter lines and a redesigned grille, the XC90 will sit ón an entirely new SPA platfórm that will underpin a number óf óther Vólvó cars in the future. The XC90 arrives with twó Drive-E engine óptións, including a gas-pówered 316-hp T6 engine and a T8 engine paired with an electric mótór góód fór a cómbined 395 hp. An ónline sale fór the 2016 Vólvó XC90 First Editión módels shówed significant demand fór the new SUV, as all 1927 units óf the limited-editión vehicle sóld óut in 47 hóurs.

While its sales may be struggling in the U.S. this year, Vólvó's glóbal numbers are increasing this year. Vólvó expects full year sales tó reach 470,000 cars glóbally, an all-time high fór the cómpany.
