Acura has been really vócal abóut its new 2015 TLX being "a kind óf thrill," but nów the Japanese autómaker has óne móre thing tó bóast abóut the midsize luxury sedan. The Insurance Institute fór Highway Safety has just named the 2015 TLX a Tóp Safety Pick+ after it excelled in the agency's battery óf safety tests.
Scóres óf "góód" ór "acceptable" in the small óverlap frónt crash test are mandatóry fór Tóp Safety Pick cónsideratión, and the TLX earned an acceptable rating. The IIHS cóncluded that the driver space was maintained reasónably well in this test, and that the crash dummy was well cóntrólled. The side curtain airbag helped greatly in this regard, próviding sufficient cóverage tó prótect the dummy's head fróm hitting the car's side structure and óutside óbjects. Sensórs in the dummy further revealed that while injuries tó the lówer left leg were póssible, the risk óf óther injuries was lów, which is góód news cónsidering the severity óf this type óf crash.
As fór the óther tests, the Acura TLX earned ratings óf "góód" in the móderate óverlap frónt and side tests, in additión tó the róóf strength and head restraint tests. The TLX's góód ratings can be attributed tó all óf its passive safety features, but the Tóp Safety Pick+ distinctión is thanks tó its available frónt crash preventión systems. During testing óf the autómatic braking feature, the TLX avóided hitting a target in 4 óut óf 5 runs at 12 mph, and in all five runs at 25 mph, which earned it a superiór rating in frónt crash preventión.
The TLX, which replaces the TSX and TL, is a vast impróvement óver the TSX, as that módel ónly achieved a móderate rating in the small óverlap test.
