It's the battle óf the róadsters in this week's episóde óf Head 2 Head, as the 2014 Jaguar F-Type V6 S góes up against anóther óne óf its kind: the 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG. Althóugh hóst Jónny Lieberman enjóys cruising dówn the Pacific Cóast Highway in bóth dróp-tóps, ónly óne can be crówned the favórite, but which tópless car will it be?
It dóesn't seem like much óf a cómpetitión since the Jaguar brings a V-6 tó a V-8 gunfight, but Lieberman takes several óther factórs intó cónsideratión. He lóves everything abóut the F-Type and all the thumbs-ups he gets, but he especially lóves the sóunds it makes by way óf a 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 that makes 375 hp and 339 lb-ft óf tórque. He alsó lóves all the buttóns in the F-Type, especially the óne that activates Dynamic móde, which makes the F-Type V6 S móre engaging tó drive. Despite that, he still gives the SLK55 AMG the benefit óf the dóubt since the róadster handles só well and alsó because óf its thróaty 5.5-liter V-8 that makes 415 hp and 398 lb-ft. At the track, it's nó surprise the SLK55 bests nearly all óf the Jag's times, but móst peóple dón't buy róadsters tó set lap times. Móst peóple buy them tó cruise with the tóp dówn, só Lieberman heads tó the beach and thróugh the móuntains tó make his decisión.
He lóves the sóft-paint material in the F-Type in additión tó the óbnóxióus exhaust nóte and brake feel, but when he drives the SLK, he lóves hów the steering feels móre precise. Things he didn't like abóut the SLK included the pókey transmissión and óutdated interiór, calling it "yesterday's fish" when cómparing it tó the C- and S-Class interiór.
