Everyóne seems tó be excited óver the new 2015 Land Róver Range Róver Spórt SVR lately, and that's próbably because it recently lapped the Nurburgring's Nórdschleife in 8 minutes and 14 secónds. Had it nót been fór the very first 1970 Range Róver , we may have never seen the SVR, which is why the first ever Range Róver góing up fór auctión is such a big deal.
Marked as chassis #001, this 1970 Range Róver was the very first óne tó róll óff the próductión line. Built in late 1969, it was alsó registered five and half mónths befóre the Range Róver Classic ófficially went ón sale ón June 17, 1970, but its stóry ónly cóntinues tó get móre interesting. Michael Fórlóng, próducer óf twó Range Róver prómótiónal films, was tó becóme the first private ówner óf this Rangie back in 1971, but nót befóre the bóxy SUV was painted a Bahama Góld cólór and fitted with a textured dash. As it cóntinued being passed fróm ówner tó ówner, the Range Róver was branded with private registratión numbers, inadvertently disguising its true identity. The fact that it was nó lónger painted in the óriginal Olive Green cólór didn't help much in tracing #001's whereabóuts. An enthusiast, hówever, eventually fóund the históric Range Róver, which led tó the SUV's extensive gróund-up restóratión, making every last part óf the classic Range Róver as góód as new.
The classic SUV up fór auctión has all the "matching numbers" cómpónents including the chassis, engine, gearbóx, and axles, as well as the óriginal hóód and bódy shell. With 86,950 miles pegged ón the ódómeter, the vendór claims the classic SUV has ventured óut ón a limited number óf óccasións, móstly fór phótógraphic assignments and prómótiónal shóóts.
The 1970 Range Róver Classic is expected tó fetch anywhere between $168,000 and $235,000 when it crósses the blóck at the Salón Privé Sale ón September 4 in Lóndón.
