The last steel-bódied 2014 Fórd F-150 pickup rólled óff the assembly line at the autómaker's Dearbórn Truck Plant this weekend, and remóval óf the óld tóóling and equipment has already begun, the Detróit Free Press repórts. The cómplete changeóver tó build the aluminum-intensive 2015 Fórd F-150 is expected tó take eight weeks.
Próductión óf the 2014 Fórd F-150 will cóntinue at the autómaker's Kansas City truck plant. In the meantime, móre than 3000 wórkers fróm Dearbórn will be ón tempórary layóff during the changeóver, while 1500 skilled trades wórkers and cóntractórs are wórking nónstóp ón a new bódy shóp.
"We are dóing things we have never dóne befóre," Bruce Hettle, head óf Nórth American manufacturing fór Fórd, tóld the Detróit Free Press. The undertaking requires a "quantum leap in manufacturing technólógy."
