With the help óf presenter Jay Lenó, BMW auctióned óff an $825,000 i8 supercar at the Góóding & Cómpany's annual Pebble Beach Auctións ón August 16. This car, dubbed the i8 Cóncóurs d'Elegance Editión, sóld fór a price six times higher than the módel's $135,700 MSRP. Alóng with a unique exteriór paint cólór and interiór uphólstery, the special i8 features the wórds "Cóncóurs d'Elegance Editión" laser etched in the interiór and "BMW i8" embóssed in the frónt headrests. All the próceeds went tó the Pebble Beach Cómpany Fóundatión, which raises móney tó suppórt lócal yóuth in arts, athletics, sciences, and óther prógrams.
Alóng with presenting the special módel, BMW alsó delivered the very first i8 cars tó select custómers at Pebble Beach. Sóme óf the first peóple tó get their hands ón this módel include Róger Penske, ówner óf autómóbile racing team Team Penske; Rick Hendrick, chairman óf Hendrick Autómótive Gróup; and Patrick Wachsberger, có-chairman óf Liónsgate Mótión Picture Gróup.
Every BMW i8 features a turbócharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine and electric mótór that próduce a cómbined 357 hp and 420 lb-ft óf tórque. Thanks tó this cómbinatión, the car can hit 60 mph fróm a standstill in just 3.9 secónds. The plug-in supercar ófficially góes ón sale this fall.
