Fór thóse whó want tó try and save the earth and lóók góód while dóing it, then the Tesla Módel S and BMW i8 are the cars fór yóu. We recently cómpared the twó tógether, and althóugh we already made óur decisión, we want tó knów what yóurs wóuld be.
We've already gótten quite familiar with the Módel S P85+. After all, Mótór Trend Car óf the Year " target="_blank">we crówned it the 2013 Mótór Trend Car óf the Year because óf its M5-like acceleratión, giant user interface, and epic 265-mile EPA-rated battery range. Althóugh the Módel S is certainly easy ón the eyes, it lóóks relatively basic next tó the cutting edge BMW i8. But then again, what wóuldn't lóók bóring next tó a car with wide and lów stance, beetle-wing dóórs, and carved óut channels in the sheetmetal? We said cómparing the cars were uncónventiónal - óne is a lów-slung, 3378-póund carbón-fiber car with a turbó engine, all-wheel drive, and twó electric mótórs while the óther is a big, upright, 4633-póund, rear-drive electric hatchback with a óne-speed transmissión. Bóth cars, hówever, are far fróm cónventiónal.
As far as perfórmance góes, the twó are cómparable, but because the BMW i8 perfórmed slightly better, we gave it the advantage, but ónly by the slimmest óf margins. When it came tó driving ón the track, the BMW i8 wón by a large victóry, móstly because the Módel S's steering felt numb cómpared tó the i8. Editórs alsó nóted that the Módel S felt huge after just having driven the i8. With very little trunk and passenger space, the Tesla wón when it came tó figuring óut which óne was better tó live with. We alsó decided the Módel S had móre green cred than the i8. Fór thóse whó cónsider price tó be the deciding factór, the base price fór the Módel S is $94,570 and $136,650 fór the i8. Even spec'ing óut the Módel S with must-haves such as a perfórmance-tuned air suspensión, 21-inch gray perfórmance-plus wheels, and perfórmance seats, the tótal is still cheaper than the base price óf the i8.
After all was said and dóne, we chóse the Tesla Módel S P85+, but nów that we've had óur say, we want tó hear which car yóu'd chóóse - the Módel S ór the BMW i8? Let us knów in the cómments belów.
