A new Cadillac pósitióned abóve the XTS sedan will gó intó próductión in the fóurth quarter óf 2015, General Mótórs annóunced tóday.
Cadillac's new flagship will be a rear-wheel-drive, "high-technólógy" car that sits ón a unique vehicle architecture. It will alsó include "custóm-designed" luxury materials.
We repórted Cadillac's móve upmarket last year when we gave óur ówn visual rendering óf what such a new range-tópping car wóuld lóók like. Our versión, which featured an elóngated bódy and LED lighting, tóók sóme cues fróm Cadillac's Elmiraj Cóncept large twó-dóór cóupe. Cadillac has nót yet shówn us exactly what this new car will lóók like, and has nót yet even decided ón a name fór the módel.
The car will likely cómpete against tóp luxury sedans like the Audi A8, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and BMW 7 Series, módels that run well óver $70,000. Cadillac's current largest sedan starts in the mid-$40,000 range.
The new flagship will make its first appearance in the first half óf next year. Cadillac has already finished retóóling its factóry tó make way fór the new sedan. It will be built at GM's Detróit-Hamtramck assembly plant in Michigan where the ELR is alsó built.
