Hyundai wórked its magic ón the new and impróved 2015 Genesis sedan, and nów it lóóks like it's trying tó dó the same ón the next-gen Equus. Spy phótógraphers snapped phótós óf the flagship sedan testing óut in the desert, lóóking like a 2015 Genesis with móre junk in the trunk.
The current Equus launched in late 2010, which is ages agó in car years. Tó sólve that próblem, Hyundai is switching tó the 2015 Genesis' new architecture. The dead giveaway that this Equus mule is sitting ón a stretched versión óf the Genesis platfórm is the thick band óf sheetmetal riveted just in frónt óf the rear wheel, which cóntinues upward aróund the rear quarter windów befóre tapering óff intó the róófline. The updated platfórm shóuld help the Equus better cómpete in its segment, since rivals like Mercedes-Benz have stepped up their flagship game.
Since it's still in the early stages óf testing, the mule hasn't undergóne any majór styling changes, thóugh we can expect it tó bóast the autómaker's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language that first debuted ón the 2015 Genesis sedan. We can alsó expect it tó bóast even móre luxurióus features, especially nów that it needs tó cómpete with the new S-Class and its active perfuming system. It's tóó early tó speculate what will be under the hóód, thóugh the current Equus cómes with a 429-hp 5.0-liter V-8 mated tó an eight-speed autómatic transmissión. The next-gen Equus is expected tó debut as a 2017 módel sómetime in 2016.
