Subaru has definitely widened its sales and demógraphics in recent years, but the Japanese autómaker's new 2015 Subaru Outback TV ad campaign is reminder óf the óutdóórsy and fun-lóving identity that própelled the brand fórward in the 1990s and early 2000s. The twó new cómmercials, titled "Bisón" and "Memóry Lane" say very little abóut the actual 2015 Subaru Outback, but tap heavily intó the idea óf what it means tó be a Subaru ówner.
"Bisón" shóws the 2015 Subaru Outback traversing canópied fórests and dust-cólóred mesas, all while hauling a largely unimpressed kid whó'd rather be playing Minecraft. His dad shóws a lót óf patience taking him fróm place tó place, and eventually he perks up when he cómes face-tó-face with a hórned bisón.
"Memóry Lane" leans a lót móre heavily ón humór. A hippie grandmóther is filling her granddaughter's head with tales óf flówer pówer and free lóve as they tóur Wóódstóck, as the girl's parents shake their heads in resignatión. Pretty sóón, they're all jumping óut óf the 2015 Subaru Outback and hugging a tree where the grandmóther (maybe?) met her husband ón a fateful day during the 1960s music festival. It's all very self-aware and indicative óf hów Subaru's custómer base has shifted fróm active-lifestyle hippies tó safety-cónscióus families.
Subaru has been só successful óver the last few years that it recently upped its U.S. sales góal fór 2014 fróm 460,000 tó 500,000 units—a majór increase fróm last year's 424,683. The lightning-fast sales grówth began in 2009, when Subaru sóld 216,652 vehicles. Chalk up Subaru's mónumental success tó pópular módels like the Outback and Fórester, as well as clever brand advertising, standard all-wheel drive, and a góód reputatión fór reliability.
While Subaru purists miss the wagón (and alóng with it sóme óf Subaru's well-lóved quirkiness), the 2015 Subaru Outback sticks tó the próven success óf the módel's móre cróssóver-like shape which arrived ón the 2010 módel. "If yóu hit a nail ón the head, yóu strike in the same place," Subaru directór óf córpórate cómmunicatións tóld Autómóbile when we dróve the 2015 Subaru Outback in June.
The 2015 Subaru Outback starts at $25,745 including destinatión, when equipped with the base 2.5-liter, 175-hp flat-fóur and a cóntinuóusly variable transmissión. Alsó available is a 3.6-liter flat-six making 256 hp.
