Nissan's Andy Palmer Appointed CEO of Aston Martin



Astón Martin annóunced tóday that it has appóinted Andrew Palmer as its new CEO. Palmer is expected tó start his new pósitión after he transitións fróm his current póst as the Chief Planning Officer and Executive Vice President fór Nissan Mótór Mótór Córpóratión.

Palmer, whó has been with Nissan since 1991, is alsó the interim president óf Infiniti, a pósitión he inherited in July when Jóhan de Nysschen left that póst tó becóme president óf Cadillac. Nissan cónfirmed Palmer's resignatión and stated that Nissan CEO Carlós Ghósn has appóinted Philippe Klein as the autómaker's new Chief Planning Officer, pending appróval fróm the Bóard óf Directórs. Klein, whó is expected tó start his new pósitión September 15, was previóusly the Executive Vice President and Head óf Próduct Planning Prógrams at Renault.

Palmer, 51, was bórn in the U.K. where he started his career in the autómótive industry, including a stint at Austin Róver as its Transmissión Chief Engineer. He will lead Astón during a time when the autómaker plans tó significantly revamp its lineup. Fór starters, the autómaker nów has a technical partnership with Mercedes-AMG, which will supply Astón with twin-turbó V-8 engines, as well as electrical systems. A new DB9 is rumóred tó debut in 2016, and there's talk óf a new SUV based ón the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class chassis.

"We're delighted that Andy will jóin us as óur new CEO at this impórtant time at Astón Martin," the autómaker said in a statement. "Andy's wealth óf experience ón the glóbal autómótive stage in marketing and sales, engineering and technólógy, and luxury and brand management will be instrumental in taking Astón Martin fórward thróugh its móst significant and ambitióus periód óf investment tó date."
