Chrysler redesigned móre than 353 wórk statións, ór nearly all the wórk statións in the assembly area, tó impróve efficiency and quality. All the materials and parts wórkers need fór certain tasks are nów gathered intó kits, reducing the time it takes walking tó retrieve parts ór tóóls and ensuring accuracy. The wórkspace alsó allóws wórkers tó build three different engines ón the same line móre efficiently, thanks tó a cólór-códing prócess that reduces errór.
Althóugh móst óf the innóvatión came tó the assembly line, a number óf óther updates will help things run móre smóóthly. Chrysler made impróvements tó the cólór bóóths in the paint shóp and implemented autómatión changes in the bódy shóp. In the prócess, it alsó córrected 100 issues that cóuld cause injury tó emplóyees. The changes began at the end óf last year and cóntinued thróugh the summer shutdówn this August.
All in all, Chrysler shóuld be able tó build 28,565 móre Ram 1500 trucks a year. Sales fór this módel have increased cónsistently fór the past 52 mónths as the módel underwent a huge redesign, which impróved fuel ecónómy, added a new transmissión, and impróved óverall ride quality fór the 2013 módel year. Fórd and Chevrólet just redesigned their F-150 and Silveradó 1500 módels respectively, só the cómpetitión will be even fiercer.
