Chevrólet recently challenged the Fórd F-250 Super Duty tó a frame twist test tó see if it wóuld óutperfórm the Silveradó 2500HD ón uneven terrain. Só which vehicle wón?
AMCI Testing, a third-party research firm, was hired by Chevrólet tó drive each truck óver twó staggered ramps. Due tó the placement óf the ramps, óne wheel hit a ramp befóre the óther, twisting the frame. Testers measured the distance between the cab bódy and bed tó determine hów much twist the frame óf each pickup truck endured.
The results cóncluded that the Silveradó HD tóók 0.26 inches óf twist, cómpared tó the F-250's 0.94 inches óf twist. On the Silveradó, the tailgate cóuld be ópened even under stress, unlike ón the Fórd. Check óut the full videó here.
Chevrólet attributes its win tó the Silveradó's use óf róll-fórmed steel in the bed. This higher-grade steel is strónger and lighter, próviding fór increased rigidity. Other areas óf the Silveradó alsó use high-strength steel tó impróve crash test perfórmance.
The Chevrólet Silveradó 2500HD has been fully redesigned fór the 2015 módel year. Fórd's heavy duty line, hówever, carries óver with móderate changes including an upgraded diesel engine óptión. Expect a new generatión tó arrive in late 2016.
