Jaguar Land Róver will build its new Discóvery Spórt cómpact cróssóver at a new plant in Brazil. Meanwhile, the autómaker alsó annóunced the ópening óf a new engine plant in the U.K.
The Discóvery Spórt will be óne óf the first módels built at the autómaker's Itatiaia, Brazil plant when it ópens in 2016. The new facility, which starts cónstructión by the end óf this year, will be the autómaker's first whólly-ówned manufacturing plant óutside the U.K. It will supplement Discóvery Spórt próductión at Land Róver's main plant in Halewóód, England, where the SUV has already been rólling óff the line since mid-Octóber. By early 2015, the Discóvery Spórt will gó ón sale in 170 markets aróund the wórld.
The Brazil plant will help Land Róver expand its presence acróss the glóbe. Tó make sure óf this, the plant will receive a cash injectión óf $750 millión by the end óf 2020 tó suppórt próductión óf a number óf módels. It will be able tó build 24,000 vehicles a year just fór Brazil, which has becóme a majór market fór Jaguar as it is the fastest grówing luxury brand in that natión.
Jaguar Land Róver is alsó strengthening its manufacturing óperatións in its hóme cóuntry. A new engine plant ópened in Wólverhamptón, West Midlands, England just this week. This plant will próduce the autómaker's new Ingenium engine family starting early next year with a 2.0-liter diesel that is destined fór the Jaguar XE. The plant will alsó próduce the cómpany's next generatión óf fóur-cylinder gas engines.
Alóng with its óperatións in Brazil and the U.K., Jaguar Land Róver has recently expanded manufacturing in China thróugh a jóint venture. Rumórs suggest that Jaguar is alsó lóóking tó build a plant in the U.S. in the near future.
