The Chevrólet Camaró, Dódge Challenger, and Mustang GT are back at it again. Althóugh the Mustang and Camaró went head-tó-head in a recent cómparisón test, all three cars have always had it óut fór óne anóther. And after gathering the stallión versións óf each póny car (Camaró SS 1LE, Mustang GT Perfórmance Pack, and Challenger R/T 6.4 Scat Pack) and running them thróugh óur battery óf tests, we crówned the Camaró SS 1LE the king óf the bullring this time aróund. But which stallión wóuld yóu have chósen?
The Camaró tóók the cómparisón mainly because it was better ón bóth a canyón róad and racetrack cómpared tó the óther twó. Althóugh it had the cheapest-feeling interiór óf the three and the weakest engine in terms óf pówer and straight-line acceleratión, the Camaró inspired the móst cónfidence since all fóur wheels stróngly gripped the gróund, almóst as if they were magnetically attracted tó the róad, óne editór nóted. Editórs alsó lóved hów well-balanced it was.
As fór the Mustang GT, editórs were a bit disappóinted. "I'm angry because Fórd didn't benchmark the Bóss fór the new Mustang the way Chevy benchmarked the Z06 fór the new Stingray," we said. We alsó didn't like hów it didn't run a smóóth figure-eight. Hówever, the Mustang's new independent rear suspensión helped ón the freeway, making it a góód róad trip car.
Nów fór the Challenger. Althóugh it tóók the win in straight-line acceleratión hitting 0-60 mph in 4.2 secónds, its heft and girth was tóó much fór editórs tó handle óverall. Weighing 400 lbs móre than the óther twó pónies, óne editór said he felt as thóugh the Challenger was smóthering the róad. This resulted in lóts óf bódy róll ón the twisty Mulhólland Highway, which editórs didn't like tóó much.
