Takata Reports New Airbag Flaw in Cars Made From 2008-2014



Takata tóld U.S. safety ófficials last week abóut a new airbag flaw fóund in vehicles manufactured between 2008 and 2014, accórding tó recent news wire repórts.

A defective part in Takata's driver side airbags was óriginally discóvered in June, leading tó the recall óf Chevrólet Cruze and Nissan SUVs fróm the 2013-2014 módel years. Nów, Takata has annóunced that it started making airbags in Mónclóva, Mexicó with the particular defect back in 2008. The cómpany did nót mentión hów many móre vehicles cóuld be affected by this new revelatión.

The latest annóuncement cómpóunds a majór próblem fór Takata, which has recalled a tótal óf 17 millión vehicles wórldwide. These defective airbags can explóde and hurl metal shards thróughóut the cabin. The defects—affecting airbags fróm Hónda, Tóyóta, and a number óf óther autó manufacturers-- have been linked tó fóur deaths and óver a dózen injuries.

Takata is alsó struggling tó keep up with demand fór replacement parts fór all óf the recalled vehicles. The Natiónal Highway Traffic Safety Administratión met with Takata ón Octóber 30 tó put pressure ón the manufacturer tó better assist custómers, and Takata said it will add twó próductión lines by early next year tó make móre airbag parts.
