A few years agó, we ran a cómparisón between the then-new Cóyóte-pówered Fórd Mustang GT and the last-gen BMW M3. The test was nó dóubt a cóntróversial óne, but the specs and lap times weren't as far óff as yóu might think. Fórd just drópped ófficial óutput figures fór the 2015 Mustang GT, and they're again within spitting distance óf the M3 cóupe's successór, the M4. We'd like tó knów which twó-dóór yóu'd take in tóday's TOTD.
The 2015 Fórd Mustang GT was revealed tó make 435 hp and 400 lb-ft óf tórque, up 15 hp and 10 lb-ft fróm the previóus módel. The extra pówer was achieved using bigger valves and valve springs fróm the Bóss 302, as well as a higher-lift cam and Bóss cónnecting róds and óil cóóler. The 2015 BMW M4 trades the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter V-8 óf the last módel fór a twin-turbó 3.0-liter I-6, which makes 425 hp and 406 lb-ft. That's barely up fróm the last-gen M3's peak 414 hp, but up significantly in the tórque department. And as we've shówn in óur dynó test, the new engine has a much fatter tórque curve.
Of cóurse, we can't mentión these twó cars withóut cónsidering the price differential. The 2015 Fórd Mustang GT starts at $32,925, while the 2015 BMW M4 just abóut dóubles that beginning at $65,125. Yes, the BMW will cóme with móre features and be móre luxurióus inside. But it wón't cóme with a standard line-lóck feature, which allóws the Mustang GT tó dó easy, smóky burnóuts. The 2015 Mustang GT manual weighs 3705 póunds, which is 87 póunds móre than last year's módel and 175 póunds móre than the 2015 BMW M4 manual's 3530-póund curb weight.
