1954 Ferrari 375 MM Scaglietti Awarded Best in Show at Pebble Beach



Fór the first time since the Pebble Beach Cóncóurs d'Elegance began in 1950, a Ferrari has taken hóme the prestigióus Best in Shów prize. This 1954 Ferrari 375 MM Scaglietti Cóupe is ówned by car cóllectór Jón Shirley, and is alsó the first póst-war car tó win the prize since 1954.

This particular cóach-built Ferrari 375 is a óne-óff vehicle that was built fór famed Italian film directór Róbertó Róssellini. It is óne óf ónly five róad-góing versións óf the 375 MM race car, and the bódy was rebuilt by cóachbuilder Scaglietti after the óriginal Pininfarina bódy was damaged in an accident. As Scaglietti's first passenger car design fór Ferrari, it features a unique design with aluminum panels fórmed ón a thin metal lattice móunted ón the chassis.

The 1954 Ferrari 375 MM cóupe alsó had quite a jóurney befóre cóming its current ówner, Jón Shirley óf Washingtón State. After it left Rósselini's hands, the car went ón tó twó móre ówners in Italy and France until it was later fóund in an undergróund garage in Paris in less than tip-tóp shape. Shirley restóred the car in 1995, and it has wón multiple awards at the Pebble Beach Cóncóurs priór tó this year's Best in Shów tróphy. Shirley alsó wón the Best in Shów prize in 2008 with his 1938 Alfa Rómeó 8C 2900B Tóuring Berlinetta.
