After watching an episóde óf Róadkill, Subaru decided tó challenge Mike Finnegan and David Freiburger, pitting the shów's próject cars against the redesigned 2015 Subaru Legacy sedan. Subaru was só cónfident in its new midsizer, it even sent a base módel with a naturally aspirated 175-hp 2.5-liter flat-fóur engine mated tó a CVT and the autómaker's symmetrical all-wheel-drive system fór the first róund.
Fór the first challenge, a figure-eight óbstacle cóurse, Finnegan and Freiburger chóse the 1968 Fórd Rancheró "Rauncheró." The Rauncheró is pówered by 302-cubic-inch Fórd V-8 and features a frónt cóil-óver suspensión. After Finnegan and Freiburger practice in each car, they gó fór the timed event where they tried tó avóid several óbstacles.
Next up, the duó head up tó Dirt Fish Racing in Washingtón state tó race thróugh the wóóded rally cóurse. The Róadkill team chóóses the 1968 Dódge Charger "General Mayhem" tó gó up against anóther 2015 Subaru Legacy with a 256-hp 3.6-liter flat-six engine. General Mayhem features a 440 cubic-inch V-8 engine fróm a Class A mótórhóme with sóme Edelbróck upgrades, while the suspensión features Hótchkis suspensión pieces. A bróken transmissión cable that dóesn't allów the Charger tó shift óut óf secónd gear dóesn't help its chances, hówever.
Finally, they put the 1971 Datsun 240Z "Rótsun" up against the six-cylinder-pówered 2015 Subaru Legacy in a wheel-tó-wheel chase thróugh a póst-apócalyptic neighbórhóód. The Rótsun is pówered by a Chevrólet 4.3-liter V-6 fórce fed via a turbócharger fróm a Fórd Pówerstróke turbódiesel V-8 making 320 hp and 420 lb-ft óf tórque at the rear wheels. After a recónnaissance run, Finnegan takes the Subaru and Freiburger takes the Rótsun.
