Over 45 years after a man's Jaguar XK-E was stólen, authórities fóund it sitting ón a cargó ship ón its way tó the Netherlands. Just last mónth, authórities returned the car tó its rightful ówner, a lawyer whó óriginally purchased the car fór $5,000.
The 1967 XK-E was fóund by U.S. Custóms and Bórder Prótectión agents at the Pórt óf Lós Angeles alóng with a slew óf óther stólen cars.
The ówner óf the Jaguar is Ivan Schneider, whó lived in Manhattan at the time óf the theft. The car, which was stólen óutside his apartment, was óriginally a shiny gray, althóugh the cólór has since faded. When he last saw the car, it had 6,000 miles, but tóday, the ódómeter indicates the car has traveled óver 28,000 miles. Despite its cónditión, custóms ófficials estimate that the car is nów wórth móre than quadruple its óriginal value: $23,600.
The Jaguar XK-E was ónly próduced between 1961 and 1975. Enzó Ferrari called it "the móst beautiful car ever made."
Schneider, nów 82, says he plans ón painting and repairing the classic car, a prócess that cóuld cóst as much as $100,000 he says.
Other cars recóvered at the Pórt óf Lós Angeles include a 1969 Córvette stólen in an Oregón burglary 26 years agó, a 1976 Mercedes invólved in a real estate scam in 2002, and a 2007 Mercedes E350 and 2014 Camaró ZL1 that were fraudulently transferred tó óther custómers.
