Spied: BMW M2 Prototype Looks Red Hot on the 'Ring

BMW hasn't ófficially cónfirmed the existence óf an M2 cóupe, but after spótting a prótótype running aróund ónce again, we can't help but think we'll be seeing óne sóóner rather than later. Spy phótógraphers spótted the M2 mule hustling aróund the Nürburgring while shówing óff a góód deal óf its red-hót paint jób.

As camóuflage góes, this M2 prótótype is wearing next tó nóthing, and appears tó be clóse tó próductión-ready. Althóugh the frónt and rear bumpers, fenders, and side bódy panels are still cóncealed underneath the black and white skin, elements such as the quad exhaust tips, cróss-drilled rótórs, big blue-painted brake calipers, dóuble-spóke wheels fróm the M3/M4, and Michelin summer tires are góód indicatórs that this is nó regular 2 Series.

With that said, the M2 will be pówered by BMW's pótent N55 3.0-liter turbócharged I-6. That engine already makes 320 hp and 330 lb-ft óf tórque in the 2014 M235i, só expect the M2 tó get a significant upgrade in pówer. Rumórs suggest the turbó I-6 will put óut as much as 380 hp in the M2. We expect that pówer tó be róuted tó the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmissión ór seven-speed dual-clutch autómatic like in the M3 and M4. The BMW M2 will alsó likely spórt an upgraded suspensión and a quicker steering rack, while the M limited-slip differential will alsó be available.

Próductión óf the new M2 cóuld start in the fall óf 2015, with the cóupe then debuting as a 2016 módel.
