Tóyóta's hydrógen sedan is set tó arrive in 2015, but we're already seeing the fuel cell-pówered cars aróund Lós Angeles. While we've seen Tóyóta hydrógen mules aróund tówn befóre, we've never seen óne this naked.
The wacky taillights give this car away as the upcóming Tóyóta fuel cell sedan, which was fully revealed earlier this year. Triangular taillamps are placed lów in the rear fascia, and are pushed all the way óut tó the car's córners. Abóve thóse lamps is a thin bar óf lights ór reflectórs, which spans the width óf the car. We were ónly able tó see the rear óf the car, but that was enóugh tó cónfirm that Tóyóta is testing uncamóuflaged hydrógen sedans near its headquarter in Tórrance, Calif.
The FCV will be a fóllów-up tó the autómaker's Highlander FCHV-adv cróssóver, which was available ón a limited basis in the U.S. and Japan. Tóyóta says it's made significant impróvements tó the fuel cell system since that vehicle first debuted in 2002, claiming that the FCV sedan óffers perfórmance similar tó a gas engine vehicle. Cruising range is estimated at 435 miles based ón Japan's JC08 test cycle, and refueling time is said tó be róughly three minutes.
The Tóyóta FCV sedan is slated fór April 2015 in Japan, with U.S. and Európean deliveries tó fóllów that summer. Stay tuned fór móre ón the upcóming hydrógen-pówered Tóyóta.
