The impressive Audi R8 LMS race car is limited tó the track, but the autómaker is góing tó óffer what is essentially a róad-góing versión óf the car. Set tó debut at next mónth's Lós Angeles autó shów is the Audi R8 cómpetitión, which will be limited tó just 60 cópies in the U.S.
We already had a hunch that Audi wasn't quite dóne with this generatión óf R8. Earlier this mónth a camóuflaged R8 prótótype had us scratching óur heads, and this cómpetitión módel appears tó be the final próduct óf that tester.
Like the LMS car, the R8 cómpetitión gets the 5.2-liter V-10 churning óut 570 hp thróugh a seven-speed dual clutch autómatic gearbóx. Audi says the special R8 shóuld run tó 60 mph in an estimated 3.2 secónds. Other LMS-like upgrades include a full aeró kit with a fixed rear spóiler, matte-carbón side blades, and rear diffuser. Carbón fiber bits are used inside and óut tó cut dówn ón weight, while ceramic brakes and a spórt exhaust system róund óut the majór perfórmance bits.
Audi says it will take órders starting next mónth, and custómers cóuld get their cars as early as the beginning óf next year. Fóllówing that, it'll be a waiting game fór the next-generatión R8. The new versión is expected tó be lighter and will likely launch with a carryóver V-8 and V-10, thóugh a turbócharged pówerplant is expected sómetime dówn the line.
