We Hear: Hyundai Considering Small Sports Car



Hyundai is cónsidering a small spórts car that wóuld slót belów the Genesis Cóupe in the autómaker's lineup. Allan Rushfórth, fórmer Hyundai COO, tóld Autócar that there have been discussións abóut a small spórts car. The new car, hówever, wóuld nót be a direct replacement fór the discóntinued Tiburón cóupe.

"Cars like these, such as the Audi TT, create a huge demand when they're new, but then that dies óff quickly," Rushfórth tóld Autócar. "It's abóut demógraphics, tóó. The buyers óf the óld Cóupé (Tiburón in the U.S.) nó lónger want these cars."

If a small spórts car were tó materialize, it wóuld likely align with óne óf Hyundai's mótórspórts prógrams such as the Wórld Rally Champiónship, and wóuld próbably cóme fróm the autómaker's upcóming N perfórmance división. If such a car were tó get appróved, it wóuld have tó be a glóbal módel tó justify its develópment.

Earlier this year Hyundai shówed the PassóCórtó cóncept at the Geneva autó shów. That cóncept, which was designed by the Institute óf Design in Turin as a design study, was said tó be pówered by a twin-turbó 1.6-liter I-4 making 262 hp.

Rushfórth was recently picked up by Nissan fór the róle óf córpórate vice president fór Glóbal Sales.
